3 Month Update – Growing popularity, guest posts and blog features!

It has now been about 3 months since I started blogging with my first site The Part Time Investor using the Blogger platform. I moved sites shortly after I realized how lacking Blogger was and I have been happy ever since.

A big thank you goes out to all my readers and supporters, it’s tough starting a blog from scratch but I’m committed to it over the long term and to growing a successful brand. I’ve always enjoyed financial topics so writing about them comes fairly naturally. This blog will always contain quality content which will help you, the reader, build wealth and make the best financial decisions possible.

Popularity

The blog has been growing in popularity now that I have a good body of material published for all to read. Other sites are linking in, I’m starting to build a small base in social media and search traffic is growing. I love reviewing my traffic stats and seeing that people have searched specifically for “she thinks im cheap”. This means people have heard of the site and are searching for it based on word of mouth. This is the best type of reference, thank you for spreading the word!

When the site first went live my rank on Alexa.com was some crazy number in the range of 9,000,000, it has steadily grown from 9 million to 3m to 2.5m and now around 2m. She Thinks I’m Cheap is now the 2 millionth most popular site on the Internet, hardly a stat to be proud of but it’s clear that the site’s popularity is rising on all fronts!

I have been getting great feedback from readers via the contact form regarding other topics to write on. These topics will be discussed in future posts so stay tuned and keep the suggestions coming.

Guest Posts

I’ve been given the opportunity to guest post on several financial blogs in the last couple of months on different subjects. Here are links to all of them:

Rent vs Buy @ Financial Highway

Travel Medical Insurance @ Boomer & Echo

Dividend Paying Tech Companies @ Dividend Ninja

Investing In And Profiting From Smart Phone Companies @ Million Dollar Journey

Blog Features & Improvements

I’d also like to highlight some features and improvements that I’ve introduced over the last little while.

I added a new category for financial book reviews which I will update with another review in the coming weeks. If anyone has suggestions for books to review I would love to hear them!

Site speed was also becoming an issue with pages taking a long time to load so I attacked the problem from a few angles. Image sizes have been reduced, fewer posts are displayed on the main page and I implemented a caching plugin to serve static content. What does all this mean? The blog is now much faster!

My social media buttons in the right sidebar have also been changed to make it easier for you to get updates from She Thinks I’m Cheap or to subscribe to my RSS feed via email. If you enjoy the content posted here, I encourage you to join me on one of these platforms!

Remember, this blog will always be free so sign up and let the financial advice flow!

The Future

Look for lots of great posts from me on Boomer & Echo, I’ve been brought on as a contributor to this excellent site. Thanks again Robb!

The Globe & Mail may include my profile in their Me & My Money section in the coming weeks so stay tuned for that as well.

Happy reading!

Congrats on hitting the 3 month mark. I think you’re way ahead of where I was at this stage, when I was still using the default WordPress theme and header.

Alexa is kind of a useless measuring stick, in that it only records data from users who have the toolbar installed. So, if you install it and visit your site once a day, you’ll eventually get below 400-500k.

Traffic is the measuring stick you want to use, so it’s good that your search traffic is growing. Guest posting (and staff writing) is the best way to get links to your blog, which not only leads to referral traffic but to search traffic down the road when all those links start to add up.

    Keep up the great work!

Thanks Robb, glad to know I’m on the right track. I just need to work on getting a logo now, something to spruce up the header area!

  2. Andrew congrats! Sounds like you are well on your way now, enjoy the ride. You’ll get lots of referral traffic and new subscribers from the Me and My Money colum. :)

    Cheers
